My registers sweat and there are damp spots on the ceiling around them — is that a duct problem?

Usually, yes. A lot of Crystal Lake homes have flex runs lying close to the roof decking under those low-slope roofs, so the air inside the duct stays cold while the duct skin sits in the hottest part of the attic. Add the humidity that hangs around here at night near the lake, and you get condensation at the boot and sweating on the register face. Aggressive brushing on deteriorated board just sheds material into the airstream. We use contact cleaning methods suited to fiberglass surfaces, and if the board is delaminating, crumbling at the seams, or has been wet, we say so and recommend replacement of that section instead of pretending a cleaning fixed it. Metal trunks and the flex branches handle normal cleaning fine.

How soon can someone actually get out here?
